Put a situation in the first message
Instead of asking for a surprising story, try a specific opening: you and your companion have arrived early for a festival and must decide how to spend the afternoon. Establish who you are, where you are and what happens next. Actions between asterisks can distinguish movement from spoken dialogue.
The person in the conversation is a fictional AI character. Delivery indicators describe message progress, not a human reading and answering behind the profile. You can use casual, romantic or adventure-focused dialogue within our content rules.
Set the format separately from the mode
Choose SMS for shorter messages or Paragraph for a more developed response. Adjust the current thread in Chat Settings; use User Settings for defaults applied to future chats. Changing those defaults does not reconfigure every existing conversation.
S3 and experimental X-3 are available on every plan, S5 on Premium and Ultimate, and S4 on Ultimate. In S3, S4 or S5, open the gear icon, select Thinking level and save. Max requires Ultimate. X-3 has no thinking control. More thinking may mean a longer wait; it is not a replacement for the reply-format setting.
Keep a separate thread for a different story
If the festival becomes an ongoing adventure, continue in that thread. Start another for an unrelated premise. Review stored memories or a paid lorebook when a recurring detail is wrong. Editing an earlier sent message removes the conversation after it, so a correction can also change your history.
Use Group Chat for several companions in one scene. Use personas to define the role you play rather than changing the companion.
Check costs before switching to a call
Text uses your plan allowance. Audio calls cost 50 Moments per minute and need microphone permission and compatible browser audio. Check plan eligibility and your balance before connecting. An unconnected call is not charged. We transcribe the speech, delete the audio and retain the text for conversational continuity. You can stay in text if you prefer.
Questions and answers
Can I use chat for an AI girlfriend conversation?
Yes. Select a fictional adult companion and introduce the relationship or tone you want. The replies are generated character interactions, not messages from a real girlfriend.
How do I ask for another language?
Write in that language and state your preference. If a reply switches unexpectedly, ask the companion to continue in the language you chose.
What should I do while a reply is pending?
Allow the current reply to finish before resending. Delivered means the message arrived. The connection and selected thinking level can affect how long the answer takes.
Which plans have unlimited text chat?
Premium and Ultimate include unlimited messaging. Free includes 20 messages per day. Calls, images and videos have separate Moments charges and access conditions.
